RNLI 24 Hour Race

The RNLI 24 Hour Race at Ferry Meadows has run for 12 years now, successfully raising over £40,000. For us the most pleasing side to this is to have watched the event grow in line with our efforts to make the event more popular, seeing the weekend go from being solely about the race, to having a Battle of Britain Flypast and live bands performing in the evening. Below is a table and graph showing the amount raised each year so you can see for yourself. Barring a few anomalies the general outcome is one of growth.

From 2001 whatever was raised was matched by a sponsor, but unfortunately this sponsor ceased trading in the early stages of 2009, which puts into perspective the scale of the achievement in 2009. In 2010 we hope for more of the same and ask for a mammoth effort to see if we can’t beat the matched figure of 9 years ago. We see no reason why this isn’t possible especially considering that three teams from last year still haven’t paid up!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Gill, Gul and Dirty Dog for donating prizes and also the valued members and non-members who took part and all those who sponsored them. In the future the winners of the race will not necessarily be the winners of the event, the organisers will also take into account the amount of money a particular team has generated, after all the main purpose of the event is to raise money for the RNLI.
